The expansive central scene depicts a romanticized Chinese landscape of pagodas, bridges, boats, stylized trees, and birds, framed by an intricate geometric and floral border. Printed in deep cobalt blue beneath the glaze, the decoration is characteristic of the English transferware tradition that flourished during the first half of the 19th century.
*This example has developed fine crazing, staining, surface wear, and irregularities throughout, giving it an especially attractive timeworn appearance. The reverse is unmarked.
